Dix Mille Tours du Castellet 2012

Oct 10, 2012,04:54 AM

For the second year, I have attended the Dix Mille Tours du Castellet on the Paul Ricard track. This event has now become one of the classic cars big events in Europe. This meeting is 100% dedicated to historic cars and is an important event of the end of the Paul Ricard Circuit’s season, for the pleasure of the people who like classic cars.

The third edition was definitely under the sign of success. Now, one of the major European classic meetings, the event gathers high quality grids putting successively GTs, Sports and Touring and Single-seater cars on the track.

As usual, the grids formed the event’s backdrop: Classic Endurance Racing with its two groups C.E.R 1 and C.E.R 2, the Trofeo Nastro Rosso and the Sixties' Endurance. A newcomer joined them: 'Nineties' Red' for Ferrari F40s and SP 333 prototypes. The Group C, nearly a member of the family now, was joined by the FIA Historic Formula One grid already present at Spa.

Inseparable from the event, the Clubs are invited to exhibit their vehicles. More than 650 cars were present.

Visitors have been able to enjoy a complete meeting as in addition to the competition, they could discover the treasures in the Automobilia village and various other activities in the paddocks. …there were to many things to photograph, but here are some of my favourite sights…

Something must be going on there…not sure what…

Watch spotting is a very cool game…especially with these kind of toys !

Just tires…but what tires !

During the races, the car clinics are getting ready…

Let’s start the visit of the paddocks with the Italian cars: of course there were lots of Ferrari and Maserati….sorry I cannot give details about every car, but I’m sure you will enjoy the pictures:

Some great American cars that have made history: AC Cobra, GT 40, Ford Mustang, etc..

This one was definitely the funniest ride of the day !

Of course there were also lots of German cars: Porsche, BMW, ….some of them very rare… like the fantastic 935, the 718, the 904 or the 917 !

My personal favourite are the 1960/1970’s endurance cars like Lola, Chevron,…I must say that I love seeing them split into pieces…LOL

Some of the most famous British cars were represented: Jaguar, Lotus, Aston Martin, Austin Healey, etc….most of them in spectacular condition !

Marc took some great pictures during the races, here are some of them:

And thanks to my friend Patrice, you can appreciate how much good time the participants had… ouch that hurts…

And at last, the mandatory race chronograph wristshot that everybody is asking for …lol

the camera and lens. The shots have that zeiss / Leica 3 dimensionality but the color looks cool, more Zeiss. Paul Ricard is a great track, especially for classic cars and amateur drivers! thanks for sharing! TM

I use an Olympus...

that under the right lighting, three dimensionality and depth of field are possible with any system, optics...kinda makes one wonder about the cult of Leica and Zeiss (though I am still a believer...)

Beautiful post, great pics.

In which photo? I spotted a 320 Grp5 (with those huge vented rear arches and M series striped paint) behind the red Ford GT40....but there's so much to look at in these shots....

Here.
