That GLA 45 is quite a hoot! It drives very well!

I took a quick spin in the GLA 45 and wow, that was quite an impressive little car.  Lots of power, a fast shifting double clutch transmission, and everything was good except the rear seat bench was a low (my knees were quite high as a consequence).  But after going to the website and pricing one out with options, it was hard to justify the miniscule price gap between a well optioned Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 and the excellent Porsche Macan S or Audi SQ5, both of which are fast (although not quite as fast as the GLA 45) and larger SUVs than the GLA 45 is.

I really can't wait to try the AMG GT.  Has AMG built a car that is a suitable replacement to the Porsche 911?  A car with the sporting potentials of a 911 Carrera S RWD and yet the comfort and easy drivability of the latest 991 chassis?  Something simple, straightforward, and easy to drive, yet capable, fun, and a dosage of morning invigoration that it makes you want to drive in the morning?  Something that would replace the coffee in the morning?  Something that puts a smile on your face as you face the grueling commute to the office?

And even if it doesn't replace the 911, just simply having a credible 911 alternative is of benefit to the consumer.

AMG used to be all about the engine and horsepower; Teutonic interpretations of the American musclecar tradition. Over the past decade the chassis development has slowly caught up with the bonkers powertrains bearing the AMG badge; the E63 AMG NA (up to 2...

Strangely, in a very short 10 minute 7 mile canyon drive, I was not that impressed with the Macan S. Liked the Cayenne better, surprisingly.

+ 1 to Cayenne! [nt]
