Canepa Design Visit

Feb 19, 2013,14:07 PM

The local car club arranged an awesome visit to Canepa Design last weekend and having never been there, I immediately signed up to visit and to join the local car club.  Canepa Design is a racing outfit and historic vehicle restorer in Northern California.  They are world renowned for their work on many famous and historically significant vehicles that have been entered in Concours competitions around the world.

Snapped a few photos, just thought I’d share them with the other automotive enthusiasts here...

2 959s in one place, I never knew about Canepa, what a wonderful way to spend a day, thanks for bringing us along :-) S

Unfortunately it was just a single morning...

 By: patrick_y : February 20th, 2013-03:05
I counted 4 959s! Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not the 959 expert, but they all looked like 959s. 1 - Silver 2 - Red 3 - White 4 - Red again ...

4!!!

 By: SALMANPK : February 20th, 2013-05:01
You're a very very lucky man to see 4 of them in one place, the 959 was a dream Porsche growing up :-) and still is in some ways :-) S

I was a Porsche 911 fan since I was five...

My first grade teacher gave me a Porsche brochure, and that was one of my most prized possessions. I'm almost certain I'll end up owning one or two someday. By the way, you have one of my dream cars, the Glandenwagen is one of my dreams. Hope to have one ...

Pic 3 behind the white ...

... that grey Porsche ... Isnt that number 5 ? :-)

Yikes, might've been...

 By: patrick_y : February 20th, 2013-20:34
Hmm, I don't recall, but it does look like you're right! 5! It is! Good Eye Bim!

Oh ... here's the response :-)

 By: bimbeano : February 21st, 2013-01:02
Indeed : FIVE !!!!!

I'll take the Dino, please...

 By: mrsnak : February 19th, 2013-17:59

Oh, and this is a Targa, very nice indeed.......

makes the entree even more refreshing! Thank you for the extra picks Patrick.

You're most welcome!

 By: patrick_y : February 20th, 2013-20:39
Didn't upload all of them at once because I had to upload them individually, very tiring. So I had a few pics left of some vehicles.

Minty fresh...

 By: mrsnak : February 20th, 2013-18:09
...shudder at the cost, but I will help Nico sell his household for this.

Very cool.

Love the stacking garage. JerryW

I do too...

 By: patrick_y : February 20th, 2013-03:10
Look at the kid wearing the hat in the picture (I know, which one right? They're all kids in a candy store). ...

Another "wow" from me ...

 By: AndrewD : February 19th, 2013-22:38
Amazing variety of cars and I also love that stacking garage - you would need to be certain of your failsafes so that one car didn't drop on another. Great visit and post. Andrew

They have locks

 By: patrick_y : February 20th, 2013-03:11
The stackers have "locks" (which are nothing like pad-locks used to chain a fence but anti-drop safeties) approximately every four inches on both left and right side of the stacker, theoretically the most any car could fall at one time is those "approxima...

Super cool! My choice ...

 By: small-luxury-world : February 19th, 2013-23:15
would be the gorgeous 356 Coupé in grey or maybe the orange Carrera RS :-) Thanks, for sharing! Oliver

Some extra photos for you...

 By: patrick_y : February 20th, 2013-03:15

Daytona for main course and 300SL for desert. That will be all for today, thank you! Cheers. Francois

Which 300 SL?

 By: patrick_y : February 20th, 2013-03:16
Gullwing or non gullwing? Both were exquisite.

Ah, excellent choice.

 By: patrick_y : February 20th, 2013-20:37
I think there are two in this photo. And over the years, they've had more than 20 come through the shops owned by this company. This restoration place apparently does like Gullwings. Dessert... Now I'm getting hungry.

Don't even think about the Dino... There are things in life which are

The M1

 By: patrick_y : February 20th, 2013-10:31
The BMW M1 has a storied history. Lamborghini was involved in the development of the car, but Lamborghini went bankrupt halfway through the project. But in the end, BMW made a very limited amount of them as road cars for race car homologization. Scotland ...

Heaven !

 By: bimbeano : February 20th, 2013-12:33
How may 959's do they have? Thanks for the pics. Filip

It can be Heaven, but it's also pure torture...

 By: patrick_y : February 20th, 2013-20:30
Waiting for your response Bim. Here's something for you... By the way, SalmanQ8 and I counted four different 959s. ...

Torture is one word :-)

The Desmoseidici RR is an amazing piece of kit, almost unrideable on the streets and almost equalled (if not) by the new Panigale .. especially with the R coming up. I had the pleasure opening a desmoseidici engine together with my friend from the Ducati-...

Yup, the new count is 5x 959s!

 By: patrick_y : February 21st, 2013-10:57
When I saw that bike, I instantly thought of "Le Bim."

Wow, what a garage!

 By: VMM : February 21st, 2013-04:58

Thanks for viewing. Any favorites?

some :)

Love this 911, looks in perfect shape. This one is not bad at all, would be great for some "driving miss Daisy" moments, and beautiful roads and weather moments. This quick machine for the circuit days. And of course, the elegant SL300, pure beauty. V...

Great choices!

 By: patrick_y : February 21st, 2013-19:12
I really liked that 911 as well. Big fan of the 993 series of 911s mainly because that's the first "poster car" I was introduced to.

I'm mostly amazed that a place like this exists!

 By: patrick_y : February 21st, 2013-12:23
Certainly is a very impressive collection.

Amazing facility and cars Patrick...

This facility is approximately 80 minutes and 68 miles South of Downtown San Francisco. They do not normally do tours, but if there was a specific vehicle you were interested in procuring, they take sales appointments. This particular tour was organized b...

I may be visiting SF on my way back from NY in late April and wondered where it was located. Cheers, dreamer

Walk into the sales room.

 By: patrick_y : February 23rd, 2013-11:39
First of all, shoot me a PM before you come in. If I'm in town and not booked, I'll be happy to show you around. Secondly, one can always visit their showroom. Make an appointment, and if you don't see anything you're dying to acquire in the showroom just...

Wouldn't that be misleading and borderline dishonest?

 By: ThomasM : February 23rd, 2013-13:59
Wouldn't it be more straightforward and honest to ask for a peak at their "private collection?" Canepa has a storied history. Thanks for the virtual tour. TM

No, it is from a friend' s private collection that
