Yes, it seems that Gail Wise who bought her light blue convertible on April 14th, 1964 (that is two days before the official launch by Ford Motors of the new model at the NY World Fair) still owns it and she says she won´t sell it. She paid about 3.400 us cash for it before the dealer was authorized to sell it because the cash tempted the sales employee and his chief.
Actually Mrs Gail car is not the first Mustang: Number one (a convertible) went to a dealer in New Foundland, Canada, and Number 2 to Yukon.
Curiosuly those early cars were for display only and were supposed to be returned to the Ford plant. But some how the Nr 1 was sold to Captain Tucker and airline pilot.
When the Fort plan knew it was sold claimed the dealer to get it back and sell another Mustang. It was not easy because the owner didn´t want to change his car.
It took a couple of years to recover it till Ford tempted Tucker to give him an special car: a Model 66 convertible One million production car in 1966 an offer Capt. Tucker accepted.
Number one is on exhibit at the Ford Museum in Dearborn since then.
This kind of stories make for the Mustang Legend I feel!!
Have a nice day! Abel
