The M4 engine isn't as exciting as the M3!

Starting with the 650i. That was a very luxurious car, felt much more like a BMW 7 series than a BMW 5 series. Even though I think it has a 5 series chassis. The quietness, the smoothness of the suspension (it felt more like an air suspension), and the luxurious BMW INDIVIDUAL interior with all the leather, alcantara, and stitching was really a transport to another world. A world that felt more luxurious than performance. Performance wasn't lacking, but in hard acceleration runs, the car never felt hurried, and more importantly I didn't get that head sinking into the headrest feeling (which I like). I would've liked to have felt some more performance from the capable 445hp engine. Additionally, there was always a small amount of lag upon each take-off, which is not something I'm accustomed to in a petrol powered car.
The new M4 is a very good car. It's much faster than the previous M3.
But the E92 M3 is still my favorite M3 of all time. The sound that engine makes is just amazing.
Also, the E60 M5 with the V10 engine, that was a crazy car with a transmission that was just plain difficult and frustrating to drive in city driving. But on the open road, that car makes much more sense. And it was a massive difference compared to the E60 545i and 550i. That V10 engine still stirs my soul when I sit in one, the sound is so fantastic, that the stiff ride and clunky transmission is all forgiven.
The new M5 is much less exciting, more capable than the E60 M5, but the gap between the current M5 and the 550i has shrunk tremendously. The current F10 M5 feels like a faster 550i.
And the new M4 is almost a bit like the 435i. At least to me, the degree of difference is much less than the former M3 compared with the former 335i.
I know you would like the old M3 with the V8 engine much more. I've seen a few of them driving through Paris...
