Congrats! The offers are just too ridiculous to pass up...

Hi, Mike,

Hopefully you will find the Cinquecento e a nice contrast to your other soulful cars.

I find that when I am behind the wheel, I tend to drive it completely differently than any other car I've ever driven, and even mentally I find myself in a completely different state of mind, though not necessarily in ways one would think.

A few things I've come to realize -

I have definitely gotten used to the total completely silent smoothness of the experience

Range anxiety can be managed; one finds oneself doing much more trip planning, naturally.

You will find others tend to wander into your path; not sure why...

With the lower COG it actually handles quite nicely and surprisingly has a tighter radius than the Abarth (Surprisingly) - it has a turning radius about what you would expect for such a short wheelbase.

The short and narrow body really allows you to zip around and you go for tighter spaces, both moving and parking, very intuitively.

The off the line torque is quite impressive, tough it can result in torque steer since it is a fwd car.  But lead footing it also sucks down the battery reserves mighty fast.

I've found the most efficient, range-wise, way to drive is to maximize coasting, with smooth light acceleration.  Funny how quickly one adapts to this driving style.

Figure about 1 mile for 1% of battery power in stop and go with smooth acceleration; 20% less for freeway steady state cruising and 30-40% less for aggressive driving on flat roads; even less for uphill.

One very unexpected side effect is that I find myself coming up on the car in front of me, either in a straight line, or when pulling into next lane, much more quickly and unexpectedly than in any other car I've ever driven. not sure if it is because of the lack of sensory feedback - vibrations and auditory; or due to the size...but had more than one unintended close calls so far.

Enjoy, glad the WanderingPurist was able to put you on to a good thing!

TM

I never thought I'd be buying one of these

But the Wandering Purist informed me, the orange paint seduced me, and my wife convinced me. I should have bought Tim J's BMW roadster, but I already have two red roadsters and my wife needed a present that is NOT another JLC Reverso. Last spring, Fiat Ch...

Thoughts on a small quiet car

Hi Thomas, Thanks for the feedback. In addition to Lotuses and Jags and Volvos, we have been driving a 2006 Honda Insight hybrid (plus Citroen 2CVs for many years). The Fiat is about the same size as the Honda but much heavier and much quieter, and it has...

Great choice although ...

.. personally i would prefer the Abarth esseesse .. which off course is something different :-) AND most of all the EXTRA bonus of making Marchionni loose another 14K is great (hope he has to pay it out of his own pocket). I've actually never heard of thi...

Power is sufficient (0-100 km 8.4 sec) range is adequate (150 km)

Those numbers are roughly what the road test magazines have found. The specs in American numbers are 122 city 108 hwy MPGe 0-60 8.4 seconds 147 hp 88 mph (if you get to 89 the car goes back to the future, so it's governed at 88) "We all understand the ser...

Thats fast !

150 km isn't bad .. but it isn't good either .. perfect city and around the block car though ! Enjoy it .... :-) Bim

Abarth Esseesse

 By: ThomasM : April 17th, 2015-09:40
Hi, Bimb, The US doesn\'t get many models of the Abarth, only the base platform and various options. Interestingly, the 500e handles as well or better under most conditions due to its lower center of gravity, and it just might be faster off the line too. ...

Ach so :-)

Over here there are a lot of iterations ... though the only 500 i ever drove was a 1.2 69hp automatic ... in Israel :-) ... not particularly a car-minded country ... but the road to the Golan was pretty cool ... coming out of the hairpins i could have use...

Ahhhhhh!!!!

Looking forward to seeing it in person. You can get here on one charge right ;) Cheers, Tim

As long as I can plug it in while playing with watches!

Looks like a blast to drive. Enjoy! Best, CaliforniaJed

It's a Magic Bus, and makes it to my watch dealer and back, no problem!

 By: cazalea : April 26th, 2015-16:07
It doesn't even feel like driving a car - it's like "the magic bus" Controls are flush and unforgiving - you have to push deliberately (no random swipe at a knob or lever) Shifter is really annoying - no smacking the lever from Reverse into Drive and floo...

An electric car . . .
